We already made Salt Dough Handprint Keepsakes of a salty dough. Now, we will show you how you can make New Year’s ornaments for a Christmas tree of this dough.
To begin, prepare the same amount of salt and flour. In addition, prepare also approximately one cup of water. That’s all you need to make salt dough.
Mix the flour and salt and slowly add water. Knead the dough until you get a compact mass that does not stick to your fingers. The amount of water is not strictly defined. Add just as much water so the dough will not stick to your hands. After that spread the dough to 3-4 mm thickness. Now, using a variety of molds for cakes make ornaments for the tree.
Put the decorations that you have made in a baking pan and into the oven at 120 degrees Celsius for approximately 2-3 hours. The aim is for the ornaments of salt dough to dry. Therefore, the temperature of the oven is up to 120 degrees. If dough is dried in more degrees it is actually baked. As a result, the ornaments will swell and will not be pretty. Before you put them in the oven, drill holes on each ornament with the help of straws, as shown below.
When the ornaments for the Christmas tree are well dried and cooled, you can start decorating. We used acrylic paint to paint the ornaments. This color is ideal for these things because it is persistent and cannot be erased after drying.
Another idea is to smear the ornaments with glue.
And then inflict some sequins on fresh glue.
To make your ornaments last multiple seasons it is not a bad idea to protect the painting. For this purpose, you can use a regular wood polish.
At the end, just pass the thread through a hole that you previously drilled and tie a knot. With the help of this thread, hang ornaments on a Christmas tree.
